Pondicherry is a popular tourist place for Indians. Situated on the eastern coast of India, Pondicherry is home to some nice beaches. Paradise Beach is one of the spectacular beaches to visit. A ferry ride from Chunnambar can take tourists to this beach fascinates all visitors with its blue waters, and white and golden soft sand. However, tides being bigger here, swimming is not advised here on this beach.
If scuba diving is what interests you then you should head to Eden Beach. This is the only place on eastern coast of India where scuba diving is organized. Serenity beach is another beach which is beautiful enough to mesmerize anyone visiting Pondicherry. Serenity Beach is endowed with golden sands and blue waters that greet the visitors with a panoramic view.
Pondicherry has a much sought after naturally made rocky Promenade. With cool sea breezes blowing long strolls on it with loved ones become a lovely experience. There are several restaurants lined up around this area to offer culinary feast.
Close to Promenade is Aurobindo Ashram, the most important landmark of Pondicherry. Established in 1926 by Shri Aurobindo Ghosh, the ashram is much sought after by those who have spiritual leanings.
Closely associated with the ashram is Auroville, often coveted as the 'City of Dawn'. This was the brain child of the Mother, who was a disciple of Shri Aurobindo. Auroville aims to unite humans from all walks of life and from all parts of the world against all social barriers like caste, creed, status, and religion and to let them live in harmony with one another. Auroville Beach is also one of the most stunning ones for relaxing.
If you have any interest in knowing about history of India then you must pay a visit to Arikamedu. This place had trade relations with Roman Empire, starting some time in BCE till the 2nd Century CE.
Pondicherry has museums, churches and also good markets to enjoy loads of shopping.
