Pahalgam

Pahalgam, a beautiful hill station surrounded by hills and lots of greenery, is in Anantnagar district of Jammu and Kashmir. Situated at an altitude of 2130 meters, is at the junction of Aru and Sheshnag Rivers. Believed once to be a shepherd's village, Pahalgam is also the starting point of the annual Amarnath Yatra. This is quite a popular tourist place and has a number of hotels and lodges. Trekkers have plenty of opportunities in Pahalgam. This is also one of the best places to enjoy snowfall in Kashmir.

How to Reach

Pahalgam, situated around 90km from Srinagar, can be reached in a little over two hours by road. Srinagar, in turn, is connected to several Indian cities by flight and road.

Places to visit

Pahalgam is a nature’s paradise and there are plenty of places to visit. Mere sitting and spending time by River Lidder is so soothing. One can enjoy visiting Betaab Valley, a perfect place to enjoy nature from close. With deodar and pine trees on mountains all around, Betaab valley with stream flowing through it presents such a nice picture.

Tourists would love to visit Aru Valley, some 12km from Pahalgam. It is characterized by lush meadows, pristine lakes and mountains in summer and thick snow during winters. Aru Valley also serves as a base camp for trekking to Kolahoi Glacier and Tarsar Lake. Tourists can also visit Sheshnag Lake and Tulian Lake.

Baisaran is also a nice green meadow people can go and enjoy. This is often referred to as “Mini Switzerland”.
