Places to visit

Leh is at an high altitude and human body needs time to acclimatize here, particulalry when you reach by flight. So, when you arrive in Leh, first day has to be spent relaxing and sipping Ladakhi tea and enjoying unique cuisines. Leh Palace, Shanti Stupa and Leh Market are some of the places tourists should visit. Thiksey Monastery is another important place to see in Leh.
Sham Valley is one of the best places to explore. If you are coming from Srinagar by road, you will reach Leh after visiting Sham Valley.
Gurudwara Patthar Sahib, where it is said that Sikh Guru Guru Nanak Dev had meditated. Magnetic Hill, where it seems laws of gravity are defied, should be seen keenly. Likir Monastery is something one should explore here.

Lamyuru Monastery and Alchi Gompa are some nice monuments to be explored in Ladakh. Nubra Valley is a unique place to explore. On the way to Nubra Valley, you will get a chance to cross Khardung La, the highest motorable road in the world. Apart from the high altitude cold desert, a 500 year old Diskit monastery is also something tourists must visit. Pangong Lake is perhaps the most famous place in Ladakh for tourists to explore. Destination for shooting of many Bollywood films, Pangong Lake is divided between China and India, with almost two third of the lake being under Chinese occupation. This has also been a hot spot of conflict with China in recent times.

There are other places tourists can visit in Ladakh. Turtuk is one such place. Part of Pakistan till 1971 war, Turtuk has been thrown open to tourists and people enjoy visiting the place. Lake Tso Moriri is another brackish water lake in ladakh which one should visit.

Ladakh is also home to some unique wildlife. Black necked cranes and snow leopards stand out among those. But Ladakh is home to several other mammal and bird species.
