Kanha National Park

Kanha National Park, the largest national park in Madhya Pradesh, is one of the best administered and managed parks in India. Located in the scenic Maikal range, Kanha National Park is not just home to Royal Bengal tigers but also home to barsingha. Barsingha was once near extinction but Kanha National Park brought it back.

Besides these Kanha National Park is also home to leopards, bears, spotted deer and many more flora and fauna varieties. Over 350 species of birds are also found in Kanha.

How to Reach

Kanha can be reached by driving from three airports – Nagpur, Raipur and Jabalpur. Jabalpur is the nearest and from there one can reaches in a little over three hours.

Nagpur airport is some 270km from Kanha National Park. It takes close to six hours to reach Kanha from Nagpur Airport. Raipur Airport is over 200km from Kanha and it takes more than five hours to reach Kanha from there.

Nearest major railway station for Kanha National Park is Jabalpur Railway Station.

Places to visit

Kanha National Park is one of the best preserved tiger reserves of India. Jeep safari to see animals in their natural wild habitat is the most important activity in Kanha. Take two or three safaris to maximize the chances of sighting rare wildlife, including the elusive but majestic looking Royal Bengal Tiger. Kanha is one of the very few tiger reserves which offer elephant safari. You can take this chance to spot a tiger sitting on an elephant.

Kanha Museum is an important place to visit on a trip to Kanha National Park. The museum, which displays skeletons of various herbivores, carnivores, and reptiles, is a good source of information about topographic conditions of the area and its various aspects.

On a trip to Kanha, once can plan a trip to Jabalpur as well. This is a nice town to explore for tourists.
