Dharamshala, the administrative headquarters of the Kangra district, serves as the winter capital of Himachal Pradesh. It is surrounded by dense coniferous forest with mainly Deodar trees. Dharamshala can be reached by direct flights to Gaggal airport, which is 13km from main city. This airport is connected to Delhi. However, major airport closest to Dharamshala is Amritsar, which is some 205km from Dharamshala and can be reached in around 5 hours.
