Agra: The City Of Taj
An important historic city of India, Agra, famous for being the home of Taj Mahal, is situated 210km south of New Delhi on the banks of River Yamuna in Uttar Pradesh. Said to be established as the capital by Sikanadar Lodi, Agra shot into real prominence under the Mughals. After the decline of the Mughals Agra went into the hands of the Marathas and eventually British controlled it. After Independence Agra emerged as a must tourist place in North India with it being home to UNESCO World Heritage sites Agra Fort and Taj Mahal. In addition, there are the tombs of Akbar and Itimad-ud-Daula. Agra has also made a name for its leather works and footwear industry.
